SOFT LIFE STARTS WITH A HARD RESET

What spring cleaning looks like when you’re trying to protect your peace, your body, and your home

Spring always makes me want to clear things out.

Not just the obvious stuff like old clothes, junk drawers, and whatever has been sitting in that one corner since January. I mean the deeper kind of clean. The kind that makes you stop and ask: what in my life has quietly stopped working for me?

That’s what spring cleaning has always been for us. Not just chores, but a reset. Open the windows. Strip the bed. Let the old energy out. And lately, I’ve realized that the same energy applies to wellness too.

After being diagnosed with MS, I started paying closer attention to everything. Not because I was trying to become crunchy overnight, but because I wanted to understand what might be triggering my body and making things feel worse.

That’s really what started my non-toxic journey.

One of the first things I switched was my feminine care. I moved away from regular tampons and started using more organic options like The Honey Pot, and almost immediately, I noticed a difference. My cramps weren’t as severe. My bleeding didn’t feel as heavy. Things I thought were just “part of being a woman” suddenly felt … less intense.

And baby, once you notice one trigger? You start side-eyeing everything.

That’s what led me to slowly swap out things around my home too, from toilet tissue and wipes to laundry detergent, skincare, paper towels, and cleaning products. I added an alkaline water filter, started using an air purifier, and started paying more attention to fragrances and chemicals that had no business being that loud.

Because if we’re being honest, a lot of us have normalized living with things that irritate us, inflame us, and overwhelm us … and then we call it “just stress.”

The EPA says most of us spend about 90% of our time indoors, and indoor air can be more polluted than outdoor air.

If you’re just starting, begin here:

  • Swap your detergent and fabric softener. If it smells too strong, it’s doing too much.

  • Upgrade your air and water. Open your windows, get an air purifier, and add a water filter if you can.

  • Rethink what touches your body most. Feminine care, skincare, wipes, and toilet tissue are a good place to start.

At this point, soft life for me isn’t just about aesthetics.

It’s about creating a home and routine that doesn't have me out here fighting for my life behind a cute throw blanket. It’s about making sure the space I come home to actually supports me.

So this spring, I’m not just cleaning out drawers and dusting baseboards. I’m throwing out anything that looks good, smells good, but quietly makes me feel worse. Because sometimes spring cleaning ain’t about the house.

Sometimes it’s about finally listening to your body.
