Celebrating BIPOC Mental Health Month

July is Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) Mental Health Awareness Month. Established in 2008, the month was designed to highlight the unique mental health challenges and needs of historically disenfranchised or oppressed racial and ethnic groups in the United States. Because We Are ILL supports Black women and women of color, we feel a responsibility to provide our community with resources that allow them to think holistically about their health and well-being. Check them out below!

Words have power and what we tell ourselves takes root. This month, we’re cultivating a positive mindset by saying positive affirmations to ourselves to improve our mental wellness. Start each morning by speaking one or several of these affirmations over yourself. Or as you go throughout your day and feel negativity or that pesky imposter syndrome creeping in, pause and reflect on these affirmations. Building a habit of positive thinking can help change our thoughts over time. Now, that’s a change of mind we can all get behind!

One tool that we’re encouraging our community to add to their arsenal of mental health strategies this BIPOC Mental Health Awareness Month is journaling. It’s a tried and true activity that helps reduce stress. Whether you prefer the feel of pen and paper or the ease of typing on a device, set time aside to relieve your mind by transferring what’s taking up space onto a page that’s there to receive whatever you have to release. Happy journaling!
